PMIRR'S MISSION TO MARS

(Pressure Modulator Infrared Radiometer)

Mars experiences dramatic changes in climate on short time-scales, such as seasons, and years, and over long periods of time, from the birth of the planet to the present. Whether the time period is short or long, certain weather forces are always at work; heating and cooling, atmospheric transport, interactions between the atmosphere and the surface, and latent heat exchange. By studying the atmosphere of Mars for one year, we can better understand how these forces work over the course of a day, or a season, or a year, and we can also try to understand how they work over very long periods of time. If we understand how the weather on Mars works over many years, we can better understand how humans and robots would adapt to Mars.
