The Thermal and Evolved Gas Analyzer (TEGA) performs some of the most complex operations on the lander. It accepts soil from the Robotic Arm, and analyzes the gases released by the soil. From this analysis, the TEGA can help scientists discover if there is actually water in the soil, giving greater insight into the water processes on Mars.
