MARS CLIMATE

(what is the weather like?)
Has Mars always been a cold, dead world? What would Mars have been like if there were rivers or oceans on its surface? Mars has a fairly active climate and features that are continually changing. Mars has seasons, polar caps, clouds, sand dunes, and dust devils, but no running water. This may not have been the case in the past, however. Orbiting spacecraft (e.g., both Viking orbiters and the Mars Global Surveyor) have taken images of the Martian surface showing features that may have been produced by running water, such as channels, valleys, and canyons.
